We know you love going on ski holidays and it's important that nothing gets forgotten. It's one of those things that just when you need your ski equipment and ski wear, you don't know where it is. So if you can get organised your ski holiday will be the best ever.

With our essential guide to packing for your winter holiday, you get the benefit of our years of experience skiing and packing for our ski trips. The team has been (not all together!) to Canada, America, France, Italy, Austria, Spain and Germany. From all these amazing ski vacations we have put together a great list of what you need to pack in your suitcase so you enjoy your ski holiday as much as possible.

What should you pack for a skiing holiday?

Packing for a winter sports holiday is quite a challenge. There's the journey to consider and après ski plus evenings in your hotel or chalet, or perhaps going out to a restaurant. Plus you might take part in other winter activities like sledging or sleigh rides. Of course skiing is a specialist sport and you will need some key items on your ski holiday packing list to ensure you have fun, stay warm and don't over complicate things. Read our suggestions here....and you can download it. To take a download, just right click and save as! Simple!

Winternational Ski Holiday Packing List

Ski Jacket

You'll need a good ski jacket of course. Make it water resistant and windproof, and ideally made of a stretch fabric and you'll find this helps you get warm and stay warm all day long. Try to find ski jackets with lift pass pockets on the sleeve to make it easier and faster to move through the lift queues. Other features to look out for are snowskirts (to stop snow getting up inside your jacket if you fall over, but you won't of course!), elasticated wrist cuffs which can come with or without a thumbhole and a hood. It's nice to have an air tight neck when you are skiing.

Ski Pants

Good ski pants are an essential in considering what to pack for your ski holiday. We always recommend following our ski jacket advice and going for waterproof stretchy ski pants or ski trousers. Look for a high waist to keep your lower back warm and also this will work with your snow skirt in case you fall over. Together with your ski jacket, high waisted well insulated ski pants will stop snow getting to your skin. Some skiers love the bib option as they feel the braces hold them in tightly throughout the skiing day and we have plenty of salopettes for you to chose from.

Ski Thermals or Base Layers

Layering is a great way to keep warm but not feel constricted. If you choose the right base layers and thermals of course. Your ski thermals are what you put on first and as they will be close to your skin, try to find thermals that are soft with flat seams or few seams. This garment will wick away moisture (sweat!) which will keep you warm and dry. Plus its a thin layer. Thin layers are better than one thick one. Over the top, you can wear a base layer. These can be a bit more lively in style as they are what you will be seen in when visiting a mountain top restaurant or hitting the bars for a cheeky bit of après ski.

Ski Helmet and more

You can easily hire skis, ski boots and poles but most people prefer to have their own ski helmet. And after the pandemic, we quite agree it is nice to have your own ski helmet. Look out for quality and performance and weight! Plus we'd suggest paying close attention to the size guide so that you buy the right helmet for your head. A great value helmet is this one but if you prefer a more luxe style then go for the amazing Goldbergh ones, like this one below.

Ski gloves and mittens are a must have for your ski holiday. Some skiers prefer the flexibility of ski gloves but we are increasingly finding most women skiers prefer to wear ski mittens. Ladies ski mittens allow the fingers to mingle together creating more warmth. If you really suffer from the cold then wear a thin glove liner inside ski gloves or ski mittens or opt for the piece de resistance and go for heated ski mittens. These are heated via a rechargeable battery and the heat lasts all day in most cases. We love these!

Ski socks are one specialist piece of kit you won't want to be without. We favour Falke ski socks because of the great fit, the high quality fabrics used including fine merino wool and their in ski boot feel.

Travelling to the mountains - what to wear!

You'll want to be wearing layers as planes can get pretty cool but then again, the airports and coaches or cars can get warm. Take a nice coat you can shrug on and off and you'll find you use it in resort too when going out to eat.

Soft joggers or leggings are our top tip for plane travel as they are cosy, stretchy and comfy. All important things to remember. The last thing you want to feel on a busy travel day is constricted and bloated.

On top take a jumper with a thin layer underneath, even a base layer. It'll help you manage your temperature and a jumper can fold up small into your hand luggage if you get overwarm. Our top tip, dont wear white. You'll thank us!

Save space in your suitcase and wear your winter boots to travel in. Chunky boots are in fashion now anyway and ours are super comfortable and most have great non-slip soles!

Don't forget all your travel essentials - read our list and let us know if we forgot anything or if you have travel tips we should know about.

How to look cool for après ski!

Or après chic as we like to call it! Soft lounge wear with the occasional sparkle could work. A warm hat to wear atop your head when on a romantic stroll around a mountain village is just the thing. A snuggly scarf can double up as a shrug indoors...so you don't overpack. You've already got your snow boots with you so why not pack some faux fur slippers to wear inside your ski chalet? Most chalets dont allow outdoor boots or shoes to be worn inside so you can feel elegant and appropriate if you slip your toes into soft slippers. And just think how nice that will feel after a day skiing in ski boots!

One other great tip we have learned is to take an extension pack for your electrical items. You can get away with one international adaptor and plug in quite a few devices. You'll be more popular than you ever imagined!

Have we forgotten anything? Let us know!

With love from Winternational
